April 26, 2022 HSPI General Membership Meeting Hybrid Zoom and in person Meeting

Mark Manovich called the meeting to order at 7 pm

Officer Bunch explained that last month’s robbery at the Magic Hamper included multiple charges. One person is in custody. Officers Valez and Hamilton will be in our area (while not being considered community officers).  No crimes to report this month. Question about marijuana use in public places. Dayton officers do not pursue. Go-carts on city streets? Under 50cc engine is allowed on the streets, but it cannot go over 25miles per hour, must follow rules of the road. Officer Bunch will look out for go-karts.

Proposed event:

Jeannine Gow presented a plan to host a South Park Murder Mystery

Pre-registered guests will meet in groups and go around the neighborhood to solve a MM. You will end at Wholly Grounds to submit your answer and get a coffee or drink. No budget request at this time. More news about this event soon.

Preservation Dayton:

June 12th annual awards event will feature South Park’s own Diana/Mike Reginer and Galen/Betsy Wilson. There will be a home tour and celebration. You can join PDI for a reduced event price.

March General Meeting Minutes – Abby Reed made a motion to accept the minutes, Jill Davis 2nd, and the motion passed.

President’s Report:

President’s forum: No repaving of streets in South Park this year.

Waste collection review may result in a change to our collection day.

Housing meeting Saturday April 30th from 10-12 at the Southeast Branch Dayton Metro Library to discuss fair housing.

Social:

Sarah Morris thanked Phil R for the Easter Egg Hunt and Courtney Colburn for Earth Day Pickup.

Finance:
First quarter balance $9026.80. Biggest expense to Gaber Manufacturing. This will be reimbursed by the city through a neighborhood improvement grant.

Social:

Woodland Memorial Day Walk Monday May 30th . The Wilsons will host a walk focusing doctors in the neighborhood.

Marketing: New Neighbors Party. Thursday May 12th at 6; Please spread the word.

South Park Yard Sale: Saturday May 14th.

Perennial Sale will be rescheduled.

Throwback Thursday will be back soon.

Looking for neighbors with photography/writing

20 shrubs were planted in South Park Green, these were funded by a mini grant. Wine and Weeding hours will be announced soon.

Membership;
A little behind on membership. 25 new members but 38 non-renewals. $1700 in membership dues collected. Membership is from January to December.

Anti-crime:
Police reorganization plan – response team will cover the entire city. Most important to report crimes as allocation of resources will be based on calls received. 333-COPS for property crimes. 911 for emergencies. We are down officers on patrol. The issue is personnel not budgetary. 340 officers 25 coming on in September.

Housing Development and Anniversary Party:
Saturday July 30th

Liquor license, Beer from Branch and Bone. Financial support from Square One

Housing – new inspector Jonathan Z (look up). Out of state LLC’s are a big challenge. Try to get names and phone #’s. Squatters are an issue in empty houses. Check the housing in your area. Oak Street church is back for sale. Fencing requires COA and permit from zoning for a new fence. Corner lots are individual decided. $75
