Memorial Day is about remembering those who have passed before us, which is what you’re invited to Monday, 10AM, May 31st. Come assemble with us inside the gates of Woodland Cemetery for our annual history walk, led by neighborhood historian, Betsy Wilson.

In South Park, Memorial Day is a time to learn more about the people who built our beloved neighborhood. If you’ve had Betsy research and write your house history, your know there are a many great stories to tell about the people who walked our sidewalks, raised families, worshipped freely and sat on our porches 100 years ago.

South Park was founded as a mixed economic neighborhood, which makes us very unusual–and very cool. Our houses and our histories are mixed. This year, Betsy’s Memorial Day Cemetary Walk is appropriately titled, “Rich Man, Poor Man, Beggar Man, Thief.”  It’s a reflection of the folks who lived in the grand homes, the humble cottages and the lovely middle-class gable-front Victorians that are so prevalent in South Park.

Woodland is an arboretum, as you know, so the walk is green and beautiful, shaded as it is by hundred-year old trees. The hilltop views, the marble headstones, and the winding paths inspire a timeless peace, so needed and welcome in our busy modern lives. We hope you will join us, especially if you’ve never been on one of these walks.
